One bill per table - What!
February 4, 2008
One bill per table please, what a stir this creates. For many years now it has been industry policy to make one bill per table, regardless of how many people are dinning.
Now there are many reasons for this procedure, firstly it makes sense to have the one bill brought to the table instead of a cue of customers at the till wanting to individually pay. It is very time consuming and basically puts other customers at risk of not getting the service they deserve, and no the restaurant should not put extra staff on just so that you can all individually pay, maybe we should actually add a surcharge for this service? That would cause even more dramas.
Also as the customers individually pay, there is almost always some items left on the one bill whether it be drinks or food that nobody supposedly had and hence was not paid for. How hard is it to have the one bill per table brought to the table and then divide it evenly.
Ok so you only want to pay for what you had (nice friends eh) I suggest that you only dine out with people that you really enjoy. Anyway how about using the calculator if it is a tough one.
By the way it does clearly state on the menu “no separate bills” and “one bill per table”. Also for the large tables the waiter brings it to the customers attention that it will be a one bill table. I do understand that people do go out to restaurants for a meal only with plastic, (not).
Don’t forget the tip for the waitress that has run around for you all night getting this & that, oh but no chance now as you all want to pay separately and are very disturbed to find out that we also have adopted the industry procedure of having one bill per table, so bang goes the tip.
I wonder if customers actually feel embarrassed as they cause a “one bill per table” stir at the till in the restaurant with lots of customers looking on, I do hope so…
