Last Man Standing
January 2, 2008
It was another busy week and the loss of Jason Burrows aka “Tiger” “Woodzie” my friend and chef that has been at beaches with me for some time now. I was very nearly the last man standing. Very nearly I said, with Bobbie due to leave on the 21st January I would have been on my own. With the dire situation that we were in the restaurant has closed on Sunday & Monday to allow for days off and to regenerate the batteries..
After $4500 of advertising on the following weekend we had 5 applications. A very poor response, but when you consider that there was 130 chef jobs advertised in the one paper alone it comes as no surprise that the response was poor. The industry is truly in a short supply of chefs. Anyway we did secure two chefs from those applicants and with the immediate start of one (Ben) we have kept our heads above water, in more ways than one with the floods that are happening around Queensland at the moment.
Also thanks to Bobbie staying for one more week we managed to cope well. Truly a great job was done by all the staff over this turbulent period with many great comments which far out way the odd bad one, remember we can’t please every one…..Now that we have new hands onboard we will start a new menu soon and build a new strong team, it is incredible that a restaurant that has been well established with a good reputation around town has struggled to cope over the festive period, here’s looking forward to the next one……….
