Goosehorn Coffee & Lunch

July 10, 2007

Another Monday is here and in town I was with Monica, so we headed straight for the Goosehorn for a coffee and a bite to eat. A bite it was. Recently opened in the old premises of the KFC after some refurbishing.

In we walk and first of all I am greeted with a smell that I cannot put any other way than cheesy. After a while it went or maybe we just got used to it. Could have been the new chairs and tables. Anyway we chose to sit inside, at a table by the window with view to the beach and the street. Also with view of any of the 4 flat screen TV’s on the walls. goosehorn

The Décor is nice with black leather feel chairs dark brown low tables, brick walls, blue electric fluorescent strip lights and polished concrete flour with marble effect. (We will be back to see and experience it at night time.) We received the menu and studied it for a while. First up in the black book is the coffee menu, two whole pages, each with an explanation as to what exactly is what, great if you’re a coffee novice. Not over priced either which is good because the coffee was poor. We ordered two flat whites I’m not saying that I ‘m the coffee expert but believe me I have had a few, if you like it week, pale in colour then this is for you. Coffee from goosehorn

It was at the perfect temperature I must add. Up next the Gourmet food menu quote the “lounge dining experience, here the dining is secondary to the experience”. It would be unfair to critic this place on just this one occasion, so I will not say too much apart from I found the prices strange from the entrées around $12.- to the mains around $14- with a few others like BIG Kangaroo skewers $17.95, Oysters $25.50 to $29.95 or Garlic Bug at $22.95. The meals are available from 11am. We chose and about 13 minutes later our food arrived. We had quiche and pasta two very basic dishes, goosehorn pasta both dishes lacked seasoning and there was no salt and pepper on the table either, maybe we were expected to go find it at the waiter’s station. Presentation was fine and the salad dressing was nice with a hint of lemon myrtle. The quiche was very hot and didn’t look homemade, the strange thing was that it was served on a nice new round plate with a high lip, which I do like, but it was sat on a paper napkin on the plate with the salad as well, maybe the chef had forgot to take it off. quiche & napkin

Very strange indeed, by the time that I was finishing the napkin was defiantly moist to say the least and you could not cut on it either! We were not offered the wine list nor was it either mentioned, again strange, we were asked if we would like something else to drink or eat though. Even though we could have eaten more we chose to pass and wait for the next time we visit to experience the Goosehorn lounge dining. Total bill for our lunch $33.80. Untill next time….

i went to the Goosehorn in south Rockhampton today for lunch and it was disgusting! i am a vegetarian and they only had one vegetarian option for lunch (other than hot chips). it was a lasagna and all it was was a huge amount of feta cheese, spinach leaves, a tiny little bit of pumpkin and a few strands of fettuccine. it was waterery down the bottom. the side was a mixture of lettuce and salad dressing. for $18 it was a very very very big disappointment !!!!

I went to the Goosehorn in south Rocky and experienced terrible service and food. I had two cappacino’s, and the 1st was fantastic - best ever but the second was sludge - impossible to drink. The egg benedict was terrible - imagine a mushroom and egg topped with lemon grease. I ordered this previously, and it was fantastic! The biggest problem this restaurant has is consistency. I won’t be going back as it is too expensive for trial and error. In addition, each time I have visisted this restaurant the service has been poor. There are few patrons in the restaurant, and the wait staff stand around and talk. Meanwhile, I find it nearly impossible to get their attention.

I have been to Goosehorn on a couple of times at both locations. I found the service terrible and the food was the worst I have ever eaten. What I would like to know is how they can call themselves Rocky and Yeppoons No1 hotspot. I waited 45mins for scrambled eggs and it had no flavour and my wifes salmon omelette’s if dropped on the ground would have bounced to the ceiling. I’ve given the place 3 chances and would not recommend anyone goes there.

My partner took me and my son to the Goosehorn on Southside Rockhampton on Sunday 11th May 2008 (Mothers Day) for lunch thinking that it would be a nice spot to have lunch - a little bit of a celebration. Not only were there not enough staff for the amount of customers that were there, but the service was disgusting, the food was awlful and arrived 1 hour after we had ordered and the service was non existant - to say the least. We paid $53.00 for our lunches yesterday and the food was so bad that i would not have fed it to my dog. My son ended up burning his hand on the plate that they served his meal on because the staff had neglected to tell us that the plate was EXTREMELY hot! Your Goosehorn Burger is tasteless and has no flavour and my son ordered the nachos with just mince and cheese and let me tell you that i have never had anything that tasted so disgusting in my whole life. The mince is drowned in tinned tomato sauce and that is it. His corn chips were burnt beyond recongnition and i am guessing that is how the plate ended up so hot. The service was shit to say the least and in the end i had to get my own drink orders as the staff did not approach our table again after taking the initial orders from us. We watched three tables leave without ordering because the service was so poor and after overhearing another converstation we found out that there was a 40 minute wait on all meal orders. Not something that was told to us when we arrived. I will never go back to the Goosehorn again - at those prices i cannot afford to be paying for crap meals. I have made a huge effort to tell everyone that i see that the Goosehorn is crap and not to eat there. A friend of mine has cancelled his reservation for next Saturday night because of what i told him of my experience on Mothers Day. I am ex-hospitatlity and i know what good service and food is suppose to be like and let me tell you that the Goosehorn does not even come close to what good service should be. The best chefs in Rockhampton my arse! As far as i am concerned you are fausly advertising your restaurant when you say that you have the best chefs and food in Rockhampton. If you don’t do something about the food and service in your establishment soon there will be no restaurant to eat in. As far as i am concerned we should be refunded the cost of our meal as it was not worth paying for.

Well.. in defence of the goosehorn at Rockhampton…My husband & i have never had a bad experience at this cafe, the staff are always so friendly..and the food has never been served late or at the wrong temperature..Its our favourite place to eat.. the goose-burgers are delicious! Its sad to see so much negativity about the goosehorn & that many people have had bad experiences.. considering we havn’t had any! Its just suprising!!

I have eaten at goosehorn on several visits to the thriving town of Rockhampton now, and feel I need to add my two cents worth. My job involves a lot of travel and I eat at some fantastic places and some not so fantastic places. I went to goosehorn only last weekend on my way through town and ordered the sexy scallops as an entree, and (under recommendation from the head waiter) the seafood pizza.

The service was excellent, the meals were served rapidly and there was never a moment where I was sitting wondering why my glass was empty… All meals came out and were spectacularly presented and tasted fantastic and certainly above the quality I am used to elsewhere in Rockhampton or QLD for that matter. I think the prices are on the higher side, but as long as the consistency is there I don’t mind paying for quality. I would eat there again and will be eating there again on my way through town!

I’m happy to see that Rockhampton has finally got itself a restaurant that can truly be called great. I went to the South Rockhampton Goosehorn (the one across from the Mobil) last night and had a wonderful time. The service was impeccable - the place is pretty popular and staff were kept on their toes, but we were greeted promptly and never once had to look for our server, which is pretty much unheard of in Rocky’s restaurant scene.

The ladies took advantage of the $5 cocktails - no problem for us men since we were paying. The men opted for the Heineken, which Goosehorn has on tap, and which came perfectly poured in a special glass.

But the food was the highlight. There were eight of us, and we pretty much ordered everything on the extensive tapas menu - I thought the chorizo was the best I had had outside of Mexico - and it arrived promptly, accompanied by all the side plates and dipping sauces each dish required. We didn’t have to send our waiter back for anything, but that didn’t stop him from coming by regularly see if we needed anything.

I haven’t mentioned the ambience here, but the two giant torches out front are not misleading. We sat on comfortable, expensive leather lounges amid all the excitement of George Street, which truly seems to be re-inventing itself as the place to be in Rockhampton. Hooray, Rockahmpton finally has a place to be! All kidding aside, Goosehorn truly is an enchanting place

I have to say, John, I totally agree with you. I had my 21st Birthday lunch at the Rockhampton Goosehorn. I went there because it was new. I was wearing a big bagde that said 21 TODAY! so i assumed that me and my 8 guests would be attended to with great enthusiasm. BUT THIS WAS NOT SO. Goosehorn made my birthday SUCK!!! When we walked in the girl that was seating us was moody and said that nobody knew we were coming even though we had called ahead and made a reservation. This must have annoyed her because the whole time we had to get her attention to serve us and when she did eventually serve us, all she did was snarl at us. There was no one else in the resturant and we still had to get her attention. When our meals arrived which seemed to take forever they were not at all up to par with the prices. I had a pumkin and fetta lasagne and it was like it was floating in oil. But i have to say that my meal wasn’t half as bad as my guests had received. One had a discusting smashed pumkin salad thing that she couldn’t stomach it was so gross so I ended up sharing my lasagne with her. I ended the meal with a hot chocolate THAT WAS COLD! When we all left I told the girl we would never go back there and that I would tell everyone I know never to go there. I can safely say that no one I know has been back there since. So my job is done!

    Rockhampton Goosehorn blew it!
I recently took an American visitor there. We ordered a salt & pepper squid entree to share ($14.95).
It arrived with four, count them, four pieces of calamari.
When the waitress was asked about it she said, “It because of market prices and that!”
When I emailed goosehorn to complain, I received a “mail delivery” message!!!!

I have just come from Goosehorn and have been served the biggest piece of chocolate cake I’ve ever seen in my life! I don’t know the first thing about critiquing restaurants, but I know a big serving of delicious chocolate cake when I eat one.
I’ll put money on the fact that this is the biggest serving of chocolate cake in Queensland.
    Ridiculous!

    Goosehhorn in Gladstone
Took a group of 10 older ladies there last night for a night out.
We had to ask if we could order our drinks.
The chicken burger was cold & bland.
The pizza was burnt, they did compensate with a chocolate dessert (which was enough to feed a family - ridiculous). When the lady complained we had a feeling
that it was a fairly common occurance.
    The caesar salads were inedible.
The coconut on the prawns was non-existant & they were tasteless.
The 3 ladies that ordered the pork were ok.
This group meets once a month for dinner, & the number has never been less
    than 10 & most months is 16/18.
Very expensive night out for these ladies - pensioners & widows who are too
embarrassed to complain & this is the first time I have ever done so.
I do have to add that the staff were all very polite.
Definately won’t recommend - 3 satisfied customers out of 10 - not good.

Thursday 30/10/08. My Wife with her 2 elderly friends went to Goosehorn for dinner and drinks with a voucher that i had won on the local raido station. When i went to pick the ladies up they got into the car and could not stop talking about how wonderful the meals were. And best of all they said that the service was the best they have ever received in Rockhampton while dining out,. My wife would like to especially thank Jordan Clanfield (restaurant manager) for the outstanding service and the laughs that he gave us through out the night. Jordan and the 2 other girls that were on deserve a pat on the back.

I would personally like to thak Goosehorn for the outstanding service that my wife and her friends received. THANK-YOU
