How Hard Is It To Get Some Bread
May 24, 2007
This little rant came about just yesterday. How hard is it to get some bread? Let’s find out……picture this, I’m at home at about 9am when I receive a call from Monika whom is at work doing the breakfast then morning tea scones & spinach parcels and then lunch assorted sandwiches for one of our conference groups. The call was to let me know that all of the fresh bread that was delivered had got used and that I should consider getting more today before I came to work that afternoon so as to have it for breakfast the following morning. Ok fine. Delivery usually gets to us about 7.30am a bit too late for those early risers. A great thought came to me. Allan, who is our fruit & vegetable supplier, is next door to the baker. I had checked with Monika if he had already delivered, he hadn’t, great. Now I called Allan & asked him if he would do me a favour & pop next door & get 3 café white & 3 café wholemeal loaves of bread (café loaves are larger than normal) for Beaches Restaurant, just put it on the account, I’m sure they will understand. Excellent, I thought, that worked out fine and paid it no more attention. Well……….At work and Allan turns up with his supplies, but no bread!!!! & looking very perplexed. He explains with disappointment & humour the events that had taken place at the bakery. Get this, on asking for the above mentioned bread, the lady explains that Beaches has already received there order of bread this morning pointing to the list. Allan explains that this is extra & wishes to take it with his delivery. Still the lady remarks that the order has been delivered. Again Allan ask’s for the extra bread and still none is given to him. In the end Allan comes away with no bread. Back in the kitchen by this time I have already had a hefty discussion with some staff & my blood was ready to boil, and now this happens. I jump on the phone to find out what the problem was. Well the ladies have there own interpretation of events explaining that Allan asked for the bread order for Beaches (which had already been delivered) and that obviously didn’t need any. Very strange either way you look at it. Isn’t it a supplier’s goal to sell products to customers and make a profit? I remarked that I do know that we live & work in Yeppoon (meaning that things are a bit slow around here) and understand that it’s not Brisbane or Sydney, but is it so hard to get some bread. The team from the bakery did organise some bread for us & delivered it to us expressly within the hour. Of which I am very gratefull. Maybe I should have rang and explained to the bakery that I needed more bread & would have someone pick it up. That would have prevented any queries. This will be my action’s if it ever happens again…………….help
